Queen Mary offers a guarantor service

In association with Housing Hand.

We know that finding a suitable guarantor can be tough when moving into the private sector. Housing Hand are here to stand as the guarantor should you be unable to provide one.

How does it work?

If you do not have an eligible guarantor, Housing Hand can act as your guarantor when you are wanting to rent private accommodation which will mean you won't have to pay a large amount of rent up-front.

They can be your guarantor for a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months. If you want to extend it after 12 months you will need to renew your cover.

Who can apply?

The scheme is open to all students during any year of their studies, which we hope will reduce barriers when trying to rent privately and make the process easier for you.

What will you need?

For your application, you will need to provide the following

  • Proof of study
  • Proof of ID
  • Proof of address
  • Co-signer Details

How to apply

It's super simple, just apply below and complete the application form which the accommodation provider must accept. Housing Hand then accepts the application and you're onto their service.

To note following the introduction of the Renters' Rights Act in England from 1 May 2026:

In light of the changes introduced under the Renters’ Rights Act from 1 May 2026, we recommend checking with your prospective landlord or letting agent whether they already provide access to a guarantor scheme through Housing Hand or another approved third-party provider, such as Goodlord.
